Lake Macquarie U3A’s Membership and Enrolment system provides for a traditional postal form application though this is subordinate to a proprietary online application hybrid.
The system separates the database itself from the forms used to apply for membership, change membership details, or to apply for course enrolment. Online forms operate within the ‘Google Forms’ development environment. They are therefore at the greatest possible level of security and privacy yet are simple and efficient to use by members and administration. They do not require a username, password or email address. Submissions do not remain ‘online’ or ‘in the cloud’ as they are downloaded to a local LMU3A computer then completely automatically processed into a comprehensively functioned offline ‘Microsoft Access’ database.
LMU3A would prefer a more fully integrated online system for the greater immediacy of information then available to members and for specific administrative uses. One has not been identified which contains the functionality range and simplicity of operation to replace the hybrid database system as currently implemented.
